Volkswagen Passat Safety

The Volkswagen Passat takes its safety seriously, with plenty of active and passive safety technologies. Standard features offered with models from 2007 onwards include:

• Anti-lock braking system, which prevents skidding by ensuring your wheels don't lock
• Traction control, handy for those slippery surfaces
• Electronic stability control, which helps to keep you in control during sudden swerves or stops
• Driver and passenger airbags
• Child safety locks

When Volkswagen rehauled the Passat in 2016 for its current generation, more features were added. Forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking are two active technologies that have been standard since 2017. Both help to warn you if your car is approaching the vehicle in front of you too quickly. The newest models also offer a rear-view camera and a blind spot monitoring system for assistance when reversing, changing lanes or parking.

The Volkswagen Passat’s style isn’t the most exciting, but it offers plenty of convenience features that more than make up for this. Standard items on all models include:

The Volkswagen Passat’s infotainment system is user-friendly and comprehensive, though it’s only standard in newer models. The interface comes with a 6.3-inch touchscreen and includes a navigation system. Models produced since 2010 offer features such as Bluetooth capability, satellite radio and smartphone streaming. Older models come with a CD player, AM/FM radio and mp3 player as standard.

The Volkswagen Passat’s biggest draw is its spacious interior and large, above-average trunk space. The car seats five people comfortably, with plenty of legroom and headroom at the front and back. The rear seats can be folded for additional space, and cargo room in the trunk measures at almost 16 cubic feet in most models.

Air-conditioning is a standard feature on all Volkswagen Passat models, with dual-zone climate control available in later models to adjust temperature separately for driver and passengers. Another standard feature of newer models is adjustable lumbar seats for the driver and front-seat passenger to help maintain good posture.
