Nissan Altima Summary
The Nissan Altima is the classic mid-size sedan with a sporty, playful side. Its character is personalized by pronounced exterior edging and contemporary interior. Along with the everyday functionality of its design, its array of safety amenities is impressive, like radar detection and emergency braking features, which prevent accidents and keep passengers secure. The front-wheel models handle smoothly, and an all-wheel option is available starting in 2019. All in all, the Altima's functional size and interior amenities make it suitable for everyday use for the urban driver.
Nissan Altima Safety
Nissan has developed Safety Shield technology, which uses radar to detect obstacles around the car and prevent accidents, which is useful when fitting into tight parking spaces. Models from 2013 onwards also feature driver-assist technology, helping with navigation and steering in difficult driving conditions. Other safety features included in all generations are:
- Front and rear airbags on driver and passenger sides
- Four-wheel anti-lock braking system (ABS) and disc brakes for sudden stops
- Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) to reduce the risk of losing control
- Child safety locks
Nissan Altima Interior
The interior has modern comfort built into a modest design. Its zero-gravity front seats maximize support and reduce fatigue, making long trips comfortable. All trims include heated seats with fabric or optional leather, as well as air conditioning and electric windows. Models as old as 2008 come with a folding rear seat and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel for added convenience.
Nissan Altima Technology
High-tech features like push-button ignition and intelligent lockout protection can be added to all generations and trims. You'll find most models come standard with a built-in four-speaker audio system (six-speaker in 2019 models). An even more advanced Bose nine-speaker system option is also available on the newest Altimas. Other optional enhancement packages include:
- Media centre with touchscreen and GPS navigation
- Bluetooth for Apple/Android mobile devices and USB ports
- Heated mirrors with light-up turn signals
Older base sedan models, like the 2011, only come with basics like power accessories and keyless entry, but a CD player, six-speaker stereo and an auxiliary audio jack is available with the 2.5 S trim.
Nissan Altima Space
As expected of a mid-size sedan, the Altima’s trunk has a reasonable cargo space of 15.4 cubic feet. Its wide opening makes loading much more manageable, plus its folding rear seats expand the trunk to fit larger items. The cabin space is standard for a sedan, but many reviewers note significant legroom in the front and back seats.
Nissan Altima Comfort
For longer journeys, the 2019 lineup's standard intelligent all-wheel drive is an improvement to the Altima. While reviews have noted some engine noise in the rear, front-wheel drive models offer a comfortable ride with resilient suspension for maneuvering rough roads and potholes. Additional comfort features include a seamless continuously variable transmission (CVT) to enhance the V6 engine.
