GMC Sierra 2500 Safety

The Sierra 2500 HD is a durable truck built to tackle any worksite demands. The steel frame stands up to abuse while keeping you safe. A high seating position gives you a commanding view of the road ahead. Rear visibility is limited, but a standard rearview camera improves this drawback on models as of 2018—though this feature could be added in models from 2009 on upper trims.

Other standard safety features on the 2019 include:

• Electronic Stability Control (ESC), which reduces skidding
• Seven airbags
• Hill Start Assist
• Trailer Sway Control, which keeps the truck and trailer in line
• Teen Driver Technology, providing young drivers with a performance report and keeps most driver assistance tech permanently on

Unfortunately, the Sierra 2500 HD lacks an adaptive cruise control feature. This means more frequent manual speed control on the highway, even more so if you're towing a large load.

The Sierra 2500 is both a workhorse and a luxurious family ride. The base 2500 features rubberized flooring for easy cleanup, while the Denali trim has thick carpeting. Every Sierra comes with plenty of room, comfortable seats and easy-to-use controls.

A truck doesn't have to be old-fashioned, and the Sierra 2500 proves that with a strong standard suite of tech. Every 2019 model comes with a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Audio, and a six-speaker stereo. Optional tech includes:

• Driver Alert Package with a Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert, and Front and Rear Park Assist
• 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot, allowing owners to stay connected and turn their truck into a mobile office
• Hill Descent Control, which automatically applies the brakes on steep downhills to maintain a safe pace

Older models don't lack in tech—relative to the time they were launched, of course. For instance, the 2009 comes standard with a CD player, satellite radio and a tilt steering wheel for the driver to adjust—on the SLE trim, you can add heated mirrors and dual-zone automatic climate control for extra comfort.

The Sierra 2500 HD offers up an impressive amount of space for passengers and cargo alike. Its two box lengths are 2 m and 2.5 m, giving the Sierra a maximum payload of up to 1,486 kg. Both cab options easily fit six people. Pick the larger crew cab and the second row is almost as spacious as the front. With multiple storage cubbies throughout the cabin, this truck can carry just about anything you can throw at it.

The General Motors small-block V8 engine has provided the Sierra 2500 with flexibility and power for multiple generations. Its optional Duramax diesel engine lets the driver rev and brake with ease. Low-end power and better fuel mileage make the Sierra 2500 a comfortable and quiet long-distance cruiser. The 2500 rides smoothly and handles easily, even over harsh terrain.
