Ferrari 458 Summary
The Ferrari 458 is the crème de la crème of high-performance luxury sports cars. With a limited release between 2010 and 2015, this exotic sports vehicle followed the Ferrari F430 and was replaced by the current Ferrari 488. The Ferrari 458 punches out 570 horsepower, which puts it into a league of its own for street-legal racing cars. The interior is decked out in the type of fine Italian finishes you'd expect for its six-figure price and it's powered by a beastly V8 engine that positively roars. This car is not meant for the faint of heart.
Ferrari 458 Safety
The first release of the Ferrari 458 Italia features standard airbags and traction control. Carbon-ceramic brakes are long-lasting and won't fail you after a bout of heavy-duty driving. A back-up camera and parking sensors are also available. The Ferrari 458 does not include modern safety features you'll see in a brand-new model, but it does feature:
- Dusk-sensing headlights
- Electronic stability control – which improves stability when it senses a loss of traction
- Daytime running lights
Ferrari 458 Interior
For a high-end sports car, the Ferrari 458 does not disappoint. Leather covers everything from the seats to the steering wheel to the dashboard. A bulk of the controls are located on or beside the steering wheel, which may make it difficult for the passenger to change the music. The steering wheel is also equipped with turning-signal buttons instead of a traditional column stalk. The dashboard display is overlapped by the gauge cluster, making it difficult to see all your driving details at once, however, the luxurious details overshadow any minor design flaws.
Ferrari 458 Technology
The technology of the Ferrari 458 starts with its push-start ignition. Throughout its career, the Ferrari 458 Italia has always been equipped with an iPod hookup and display as well as an auxiliary audio input. A navigation system is an optional feature and drivers can also opt for a premium sound system. It goes without saying that AM/FM radio is standard, but drivers can upgrade to satellite radio. Drivers can also opt for a universal garage-door opener.
Ferrari 458 Space
The Ferrari 458 is a two-door, two-seater sports car and not intended for family road trips. The cockpit offers a decent amount of passenger space for its class. In 2012, Ferrari added the Ferrari 458 Spider convertible to its lineup. The aluminum hardtop can be retracted in under 15 seconds, which immediately adds a whole new dimension to the interior space. Both the coupe and the convertible provide some storage space behind the seats and the trunk is located under the hood. Cargo space is narrow but deep.
Ferrari 458 Comfort
The Ferrari 458 has supportive, comfortable seats and offers drivers a superior position and view of the road in front of them. With all that power under the hood, the Ferrari 458 can handle sharp corners with great ease. Roaring engine noises are a given in this type of sportscar, but despite its forceful acceleration, drivers don't lose their sense of control. Even with its high-performance engine and zippy seven-speed automatic transmission, the drive still feels supple and comfortable.
