The main cabin of newer Silverados have a high-strength steel safety cage, which offers serious protection against impact. The vehicle also comes with six airbags. While there are a number of impressive high-tech safety features available on more recent models, these aren't fitted as standard. Optional safety systems in newer models like the 2014 include: 

• Front and rear parking assist
• Forward Collision Alert technology, which warns you when you're too close to the vehicle in front of you
