The Volvo V50 is a five-seater station wagon whose production ended for the 2011 model year. Originally launched in 2004, Swedish automobile manufacturer Volvo produced over 500,000 units of the Volvo V50. The Volvo V50 was considered a variant of the Volvo S40 sedan, sharing many of the same features. Designed on a Ford C1 platform, the Volvo V50 separates itself from sister vehicles Ford Focus and Mazda 3, with upgraded interior and “Volvo intelligent vehicle architecture”. The five-door station wagon never received any generational redesigns. However, for the 2008 model year, the vehicle got a facelift that included minor interior modifications, upgraded engine and front-end restyling. In 2010, the Volvo V50 no longer offered a diesel engine option.
Volvo V50 features
Though some of its competitors offer slightly more room, the Volvo V50 features loads of family-friendly conveniences, such as an optional integrated booster seat and a spacious back row. In its last production year, all-wheel drive and manual transmission were scrapped for the front-wheel drive, turbocharged five-cylinder engine. The power moonroof became standard in the 2009 release, as well as the six-disc CD changer. Buyers looking at the Volvo V50 should also check out the Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen or Subaru Outback.
