The Volkswagen Tiguan made its North American debut as a 2009 model year vehicle offering a choice of front- or all-wheel drive. Second-Generation Volkswagen Tiguan
The second generation of the Volkswagen Tiguan arrived in late 2017 as a 2018 model year vehicle. The headline with the new generation was that it was almost a foot longer than the first-generation Tiguan. It was replaced with a new 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This allowed for a third row of seating and improved the vehicle's cargo space. In Canada, available trims were Trendline, Comfortline and Highline, with the R-Line sporty appearance package available on Highline Tiguans.
