Saab is a Swedish luxury car manufacturer that was taken over by NEVS in 2012. Prior to its rebranding, Saab’s most popular cars, the Saab 9-3 and its big brother, the Saab 9-5, offered drivers a safe and opulent ride. For those with backseat passengers, the 2011 Saab 9-5 offers more legroom, though both models have plenty of trunk space and come in a wagon edition. The 2009 Saab 9-7 is the most recent luxury SUV from the lineup, though drivers might also check out the similar 2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer.
A short history of the Saab brand
Saab got its start as an aircraft manufacturer back in 1937. Post WWII, as demand for military planes decreased, the company turned its sights to automobiles. The original Saab car, the aerodynamic Saab 92, debuted in 1949. It was one of the first mass-produced cars to offer both a front engine and front-wheel drive. The Saab 96 was of the brand’s most popular models, with more than 550,000 sold between 1960 and 1980. The iconic Saab 900 launched in 1980, helping the brand gain popularity in North America. In 1990, General Motors purchased half of Saab’s automotive division, buying the remainder in 2000. After filing for bankruptcy in 2011, Saab was purchased by NEVS in 2012. Saab cars are no longer in production.
