The Pontiac G8 was a short-lived full-size sedan produced by the Australian auto manufacturer Holden. The popular Holden Commodore from down under was rebadged by General Motors – then sold as the Pontiac G8 in the United States and Canada through 2008 and 2009. With the 2009 recession and resulting GM bankruptcy, the company was forced to end production and sales of all Pontiac products in April 2009. Thus, the Pontiac G8 was discontinued as quickly as it arrived, being produced for just over one year. The Australian Holden Commodore’s fate did not fare much better, with the vehicle being discontinued before the eventual closure of Holden Ltd.
The sought-after Pontiac G8
Finding a Pontiac G8 for sale is no simple task. With only 38,000 units sold throughout North America, they are becoming more and more difficult to find. Plus, the Pontiac G8 is a sought-after piece of machinery, as it was one of the few full-sized rear-wheel-drive sedans available on the market during its time. Thanks to desirability and limited units, the prices of new and used Pontiac G8s have risen over the years. This is in stark contrast to how the sedan sold for thousands of dollars under its sticker price in its final month of sales.
Pontiac G8 features
Only three trim levels were available for the Pontiac G8 during its short run. The base-level was nothing to snicker at with a 3.6-litre V6 engine. However, it is the higher trim levels that enthusiasts claim makes the car special. The Pontiac G8 GT is powered by a V8 engine, while the GXP trim level offers the most powerful engine. This last version is hard to come by, with fewer than 2,000 units ever constructed.
