Nissan GT-R history
Though the Nissan GT-R debuted in 2007, its history extends back decades. The GT-R label was first attached to the Nissan Skyline, a legendary Japanese car that began racing in 1964 as the Prince Skyline. The Nissan Skyline GT-R, a performance-tuned sedan, was introduced in Japan in 1969. While that first model had a fairly modest 160 horsepower engine, Nissan spent the next four decades refining the engineering and building the GT-R legend before finally releasing the 480 horsepower Nissan GT-R supercar to the North American market in 2009. Since then, there have been a few small changes and power upgrades, but the Nissan GT-R is still in its first generation.
Nissan GT-R features
The 2021 Nissan GT-R is available in two trim levels: Premium and NISMO. Premium models are equipped with a twin-turbo 3.8-litre 565 horsepower V6 engine. NISMO models are slightly more powerful at 600 horsepower. All-wheel drive and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission are standard on all 2021 models. In terms of space, the Nissan GT-R may be a two-door coupe with seating for four, but the rear seats are better suited to cargo than people. Comfort and convenience features include an ergonomically designed cabin with premium leather interior, heated power-adjustable seats and a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay.
