History of the Mitsubishi Evolution
While the Mitsubishi Evolution debuted in Japan in 1992, it wouldn't arrive in North America until 2003. Over the 23 year production period, Mitsubishi introduced 10 generations. Designed for rally racing, the carmaker started with a Mitsubishi Lancer body, then made it lighter and more powerful by adding four-wheel drive. Mitsubishi Evolution race cars went on to win World Rally Championship titles every year from 1996 to 1999. Thanks to its success, the EVO began garnering international attention, featuring in Gran Turismo video games and the Fast and Furious movie franchise. By the time the car launched in the United States in 2003, it was already a legend. The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, the tenth generation of the sport sedan, finally debuted in Canada in 2008 and was discontinued in 2015.
Mitsubishi Evolution in Canada
The 2008 Mitsubishi Evolution X came to Canada in three available trim levels: GSR, MR and MR Premium. All three trim levels share the same engine, a 295 horsepower turbocharged and all-aluminum intercooler engine, and the Super All Wheel Control all-wheel drive system. GSR models are equipped with a five-speed manual transmission, while the MR models feature six-speed Sportronic transmissions. In 2015, Mitsubishi launched the Mitsubishi Evolution Final Edition, building only 350 cars for the Canadian market. Thanks to the scarcity, models from this edition can be very valuable. This final model was also the most powerful, offering a 303 horsepower 2.0-litre turbocharged engine.
