The Honda Accord was launched in 1977 as a step up for buyers who wanted a larger vehicle than the strong-selling Honda Civic. While originally launched as a three-door hatchback, the four-door sedan arrived in 1979 with a slightly larger and more powerful engine. Through the following three generations, the Honda Accord grew larger and more sporty with angular styling until the fifth-gen version changed course with a greater focus on comfort. A wagon version was available for generations four and five. The sedan received its first V6 engine with the fifth generation in 1994.

The V6 version boasted 200 horsepower, which increased to 240 with the seventh generation in 2003 while a hybrid version was introduced in 2005. The eighth-generation Honda Accord grew once again and was classed as a full-size car while delivering better fuel economy than its predecessor. The ninth generation launched in 2013 with a new sport variant boasting a six-speed manual transmission as standard. This was short-lived, as the tenth-generation Honda Accord did away with the manual and V6 engine, though handling was greatly improved with weight reduced through the use of aluminum and high-strength steel. The eleventh-generation Honda Accord launches in 2023.
