The GMC Canyon and its twin vehicle, the Chevrolet Colorado, were jointly designed by American automobile manufacturer General Motors. Introduced in 2003, the GMC Canyon was the predecessor to the GMC Sonoma compact pickup truck. Multi-functional and versatile, the GMC Canyon has grown over the years, with the latest second-generation redesign competing in the mid-size pickup market. With multiple facelifts throughout the years, the GMC Canyon and sister truck, the Chevrolet Colorado, are both expected to debut a third-generation model within the next couple of years.
Generations of the GMC Canyon
Looking for a GMC Canyon for sale could take you as far back as the 2004 model year. Additionally, multiple specifications are available for the truck, including cab size, suspension, engine and transmission options. Built on the same platform as the Hummer H3, the first-generation GMC Canyon is available in regular, extended, or crew cabs, which can seat up to six passengers. Early sales of the GMC Canyon and its twin were competitive in the market. However, the numbers drastically dropped after the first few years. This led to facelifts for the GMC Canyon in 2007 and 2009 before introducing the trendy second-generation version in 2014.
The second-generation GMC Canyon today
While the new and improved GMC Canyon closely resembled the second-generation Chevrolet Colorado, the GMC Canyon featured a front grille more similar to General Motors' full-size GMC Sierra. Additionally, the updated GMC Canyon offers some unique features, including a Teen Driver feature that puts limits on speed and audio volume. Still offered in three trim levels, the pickup is available in diesel or gasoline engines, two- or four-wheel drive, as well as manual or automatic transmissions. Most notably, the second-generation GMC Canyon features a unique body design separating it further from its competitors.
