The Dodge Ram 2500 nameplate first appeared on a Dodge Truck with the second-generation Ram's debut in 1994, with 1500, 2500, and 3500 referring to half-ton, three-quarter-ton, and one-ton trucks respectively. The Dodge Ram 2500 was offered in light- and heavy-duty versions, with two- and four-wheel drive. Engine options included a gas V6, a pair of V8s, a Cummins diesel inline-six and an 8.0 litre V10, though the diesel and V10 were not available for the light-duty 2500. Trims ranged from the Work Special up to the luxurious Laramie SLT.
New millennium, new Ram
The Dodge Ram 2500 received a major redesign for 2002 with an all-new frame and redesigned suspension. Offering a larger range of engine options than the previous generation, the third-gen Ram 2500 featured a variety of sport-themed appearance and performance packages, culminating with the mighty SRT-10 which was powered by the 8.3 litre V10 engine from the Dodge Viper.
The fourth-generation Ram 2500 debuted in 2009 with Ram now a standalone brand and featuring standard electronic stability control as well as a wide range of cab and engine options. The fifth-generation Ram 2500 arrived in 2019 with better fuel efficiency and less weight to pull around.
