The Dodge Charger first launched in 1966 on the rear-wheel drive platform from the Dodge Coronet. Over the course of seven generations, the Dodge Charger has evolved from a two-door coupe to a four-door sedan, with lots of variation along the way. The first-generation Charger offered powerful engines, and the iconic second generation added the 7.0-litre Hemi and 7.2-litre "Magnum" V8. While the second generation featured wind tunnel-honed aerodynamics and muscle car performance, tightening emissions regulations took a toll on the third and fourth-generation Chargers before production ended in 1978. A front-wheel drive fifth generation with small four-cylinder engines was designed in Europe and produced from 1981 to 1987.

The Hemi V8 engine also returned, with the sixth-generation Charger also powered by V6 engines with available all-wheel drive. The seventh generation debuted in 2011 with its V6 and V8 engines backed up by an eight-speed automatic transmission. Dodge introduced the Dodge Charger Hellcat with 707 horsepower in 2015. The top-of-the-line Charger Hellcat Redeye boasts 797 horsepower and a 203 mph top speed. The seventh-generation Charger features more technology and luxury than ever before.
