The Chrysler Cordoba is a large luxury coupe that was made from 1975 to 1983. The upscale personal car was designed to compete with a popular class of vehicles that included the Oldsmobile Cutlass, the Buick Regal and the Mercury Cougar. Corporate design cousin to the Dodge Charger SE, the Chrysler Cordoba outsold the cheaper brand thanks to the more upscale Chrysler badge. The car was highly successful until the arrival of the Chrysler Le Baron in 1977, which was smaller and available as a coupe or sedan.
Chrysler Cordoba history
The Chrysler Cordoba started its run as an option level to the then-popular Chrysler Newport. In 1970, the Chrysler Newport Cordoba was introduced as a full-size limited-edition luxury sedan complete with a new gold paint job and antique gold-coloured interior. The success of this design brought Chrysler to reinvent the name for its new coupe in 1975. Today, the early versions of the vehicle are considered highly collectable. However, second-generation options lack the same desirability, forcing astute buyers on the lookout when finding a Chrysler Cordoba for sale.
Chrysler Cordoba design
The original design featured a chrome grille and rounded edges, but the exterior design became boxed out as the years progressed. Drivers have a couple of roof options: a halo vinyl top with opera windows or the optional T-bar roofs or tinted sunroofs. All Chrysler Cordoba models were stocked with a three-speed automatic transmission. First-generation options come loaded with a V8 engine, with later years offering a Slant 6. Drivers who like the look of the Chrysler Cordoba should check out the Dodge Charger SE from the same era.
