The Chevrolet Avalanche is a full-size truck sold from 2001 to 2013. Sharing its extended wheelbase chassis with the Chevrolet Suburban and Cadillac Escalade, the Chevrolet Avalanche is a large four-door pickup. The truck was the first to break the longstanding tradition of Chevrolet vehicles being sold as rebadged GMCs. Despite winning multiple awards, the Chevrolet Avalanche was discontinued after two generations and is only succeeded spiritually in the Chevrolet Silverado EV.
Consider the first-generation Chevrolet Avalanche
The first-generation Chevrolet Avalanche was introduced for the 2002 model year. The new truck was available with two engine options. The first was a 5.3L V8, or, on the upgraded model, a Vortec 8.1L V8 engine was available. These early models did suffer from discolouration issues with the cladding. Cladding is where two materials are matched without welding or glue. Despite some efforts to quell the cladding problem, later releases were offered without cladding at all. These uncladded models were known as “Without Body Hardware” or “WBH”.
The second-generation Chevrolet Avalanche
The second-generation Chevrolet Avalanche was available from 2007 until discontinuation in 2013. The latest Chevrolet Avalanche shared many of the same design choices as the company’s popular SUVs, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet Suburban. This second-generation Chevrolet Avalanche was sold without the larger engine upgrade. However, the standard 5.3L V8 engine was capable of running on E85 ethanol, which boosted the vehicle’s torque and horsepower. The Chevrolet Avalanche was available in three trim levels, and later a Black Diamond Edition offered special badging for the truck’s final year of production, although not much else differed from other variations.
