The Cadillac CTS arrived for the 2003 model year with rear-wheel drive and its sights set firmly on the established performance sedans from Germany. The Cadillac CTS launched with a 3.2-litre V6 engine before the high-performance Cadillac CTS-V arrived in 2004 with a 5.4-litre V8, making 400 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque. The Cadillac CTS wagon launched in 2009, with the coupe following in 2010. The second generation debuted in 2008 with a 3.6-litre V6 as its base engine, featuring larger dimensions and more advanced handling electronics than its predecessor. The Cadillac CTS-V's engine became a 6.2-litre supercharged V8, pushing 556 horsepower, and the Cadillac CTS-V wagon became available for the first time.
More engines and more power
The third-generation Cadillac CTS debuted for the 2014 model year. Engine options now included a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder; the venerable 3.6-litre V6; and a 420 horsepower twin-turbocharged version known as the Vsport, slotting in between the V6 and the Cadillac CTS-V. A new eight-speed automatic gearbox replaced the previous six-speed units across the range, and the Cadillac CTS-V's supercharged V8's output increased to a fearsome 630 horsepower, giving it the ability to hit 200 mph. The Cadillac CTS was replaced by the Cadillac CT5 in 2019.
