Once considered the epitome of the premium driving experience, finding a Cadillac convertible for sale is not like it used to be. These days, it is rare to see a Cadillac convertible outside of a classic car show. That is because Cadillac, the luxury car division of General Motors, has not had a convertible sold commercially since 1976. Today’s Cadillac lineup primarily consists of luxury sedans and SUVs, while convertibles are typically reserved for much sportier body styles. All said, that does not take away from the impressive history of Cadillac convertibles that exist.
Classic Cadillac convertibles, oh my
Cadillac has a rich history of convertibles. In fact, the first convertible the company ever released reaches as far back as the turn of the century. The 1905 Cadillac Model D is considered the grandfather of the modern convertible; it was also the first vehicle to offer a governed throttle, the beginning of cruise control. Some other Cadillac convertibles worth researching include the Cadillac Eldorado and the Cadillac DeVille. There are also many classics that had a convertible option, including the Cadillac Series 67 Park Avenue and the Cadillac Series 62.
Is there a future for Cadillac convertibles?
Despite the long hiatus, it seems that Cadillac has not completely thrown in the towel on developing a convertible. As recently as 2011, Cadillac released a convertible concept car called the Cadillac Ceil. The design of the Cadillac Ceil is unlike anything currently in the Cadillac lineup. Even more ground-breaking was an interior filled with ingenuity, including an aromatherapy system. However, not much has been heard about the Cadillac Ceil since its unveiling, and the future of Cadillac convertibles is uncertain.
